Communication filters help streamline outgoing Broadcast messages by automatically narrowing recipients based on specific criteria, such as status, qualifications, shift dates, and more.
Available message filters
You can filter recipients by:
Shift start date range
Signed up date range
Field values
Exclude recipients who have a shift
Required fields (completed or incomplete)
Check-in status (checked in / not checked in)
Waiver/Disclaimer (signed / not signed)
*Note: Status, Qualification, and Unassigned applicants message filters are only available when using the Application as Recipients
Using the Broadcast Filter

- From the menu, navigate to Communicate > Compose & Send Email or Compose & Send Text/SMS
- Compose your Message
- Select the Recipients

Shift start or Signed up Date
Shift start date will apply when selecting either Event/program or Application as the Recipients..
- Use this to filter when the Volunteer's shifts occur
Signed up Date will apply when selecting either Event/program or Application as the Recipients.
- Use this to filter when the Volunteer submitted the Application
- Use this to filter when the Volunteer signed up for the shift
Enable the toggle filter
- Enter the dates and times within the date picker fields
Status & Qualification Filters
You can use the Status & Qualification fields to send targeted communications to specific groups of volunteers. Read more about the Status & Qualification fields for Applicant Vetting

Filtering by Field Values
Field values refer to the information collected in the Registration Form section of an Application or Event/Program. This feature allows you to send targeted communications based on responses to dropdown or list-selection questions.
Example Scenario
You want to send an email to:
'Approved - General' volunteers who are available on Mondays
'Approved - Work with Minors' volunteers who are available on Mondays
Understanding AND vs OR Conditions
AND conditions: The volunteer must meet both selected criteria to receive the message.
OR conditions: The volunteer will receive the message if they meet either of the selected criteria.
Each connected blue box represents an AND condition.
Example structure below:
Approved - General AND Monday
Approved - Work with Minors AND Monday
Exclude recipients who have a shift filter
Use this filter to exclude volunteers who are already scheduled for a shift, helping you focus recruitment efforts on those who have not yet signed up for your upcoming Event. The recipient audience is typically your main Application or a previous yearβs Event.

- Typically, the Application or the previous year's Event(s)
- Enable the toggle Exclude recipients who have a shift in any of the selected events:
- Select the upcoming Event
Unassigned Applicants
Unassigned Applicants are volunteers who have completed an Application but have not successfully signed up for a job and shift on your Event scheduling page.

Disclaimer signed
Use the Disclaimer Signed filter to control which volunteers receive your message based on their waiver/disclaimer signature status.

Tip: Use the {volunteer profile} smart tag into your message so volunteers can easily jump straight to their profile and sign their waiver/disclaimer.

Only volunteers that signed the waiver/disclaimer
Sends the broadcast message to volunteers with a completed waiver/disclaimer signature.

Only volunteers that have not signed the waiver/disclaimer
Sends the broadcast message to volunteers who have not completed the waiver/disclaimer or whose signature has been reset.
Please note: This message will not be sent to parents/guardians of minor volunteers.

Only parents/guardians of volunteers with a parent-pending signature for the waiver/disclaimer
Sends the broadcast message to parents/guardians with a pending waiver/disclaimer signature for a minor volunteer.
Please note: This filter is not available for text messages.
Please note: Be sure to select the correct Recipients based on whether your waiver is attached to the Application or the Event/Program.
