If your account includes the Leader Captain feature (available on Enterprise plans or as a Grow plan add-on), you can assign user roles within your organization. This makes it easy to control each user’s access levels and available features.
Assign a Role
- From the Menu bar, navigate to Account > Manage Users
- From the Manage Users page, click the Add user button in the top right
- Enter the user’s details
- Update the Role dropdown

What is a Coordinator?
A Coordinator is an administrative role in VolunteerLocal. Coordinators can edit or modify volunteer data and account settings.
However, it’s important to note that Coordinators are still subject to the permissions you assign under Account > Manage Users

What is a Leader Captain?
A Leader Captain is a lower-tier user role in VolunteerLocal. This role provides a more limited, controlled view of volunteer data. It is ideal for users who need access to reports and communications and may or may not be able to modify volunteer assignments.
Leader Captains also have the ability to receive signup and cancellation notifications.
Permissions
In the What can the user do? section, assign permissions to determine what areas of the account the Leader Captain can access
Job & Shift Access
In the What events can the user manage? section, assign the specific Jobs or Shifts to the Leader Captain
You can also enable the Signup and Cancellation notifications within this view
Job Assignment
After the user has been created, you can also assign/provide access within the Job.
Navigate to Events & Programs > Events & Programs
Selese Jobs
Click the specific Job to expand the settings
Scroll to the Leader/Captain section
Type the existing User's email
Click Save
You can also enable the Signup and Cancellation notifications within this view
Volunteer Information Visibility
You can limit a Leader Captain’s ability to view or edit specific volunteer fields.
To update visibility settings:
Navigate to Events & Programs > Events & Programs or Applications
Scroll to the Event/Program or Application
Select Registration Form

cannot view
Signup and Cancel Notifications
Leader Captains can receive signup and cancellation notifications for the Jobs and Shifts they have access to. They can update their notification preferences by following these steps:
- From the account, navigate to Account > Your Profile
- Within Your profile, review the Jobs

Enable or disable the Signup or Cancellation icons for each job
